Ekanem Bassey

Biography Ekanem Bassey is a doctoral research candidate in Law and Energy at the Durham Law School . She holds an LLM in International Trade and Commercial Law from the Durham University and an LLB (Honours) degree from the University of Calabar as well as being a qualified Barrister and Solicitor in Nigeria. Ekanem is a holder of the prestigious Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Scholarship and works in the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (formerly called Department of Petroleum Resources).

Ekanem's thesis is on Legitimate Expectations and Energy Transition in the Global South. While the Global North has been able to make significant progress in energy transition, the Global South is still grappling with the idea of energy transition while still trying to meet their climate goals, deal with energy poverty , development issues and economic issues.

Her main research areas are on Oil & Gas, Legitimate Expectations, Energy, Natural Resources, Clean Fuels, Policy, Climate Change, International Environmental Law, Corporate Law and governance and Regulatory Compliance.
