Dr Nick Batho

Research Interests	I am a historian of twentieth century U.S. cultural politics, with a particular focus on how children's literature became a vehicle for protest on both the left and the right. I am interested in how education became a key battleground over race, gender identity, sexuality, militarism among many other core issues. This includes work on book bans, books children had access to, and how history was taught.
Teaching and Learning	Currently I am teaching 'A Change is Gonna Come: The United States in the 1960s' and 'The Rise and Fall of American Slavery. Previous courses I have taught and designed include 'The Brownies Book: Children's Literature as a Historical Source' and 'Conservatism in the United States, 1930-2000'
