Dr Nicola Fullard
Biography | I obtained my PhD at Newcastle University, working in the institute of Cellular Medicine investigating the role of NFĸB in skin ageing in a collaborative project between the Fibrosis Research group and Dermatology Research groups in 2012. Upon completion of my PhD I had the opportunity to work as a post-doctoral researcher in the Institute of Genetic Medicine, Newcastle University investigating the molecular mechanisms behind cardiac fibrosis with an emphasis on serotonin signalling. I joined Durham University as a PDRA in The Przyborski group in 2014, with a research focus on generation of in vitro skin equivalents to study the effects of ageing. In 2015 I moved into my current role as Experimental Officer and manager of the containment level 2 mammalian cell culture facilities. I am responsible for training and H&S in containment level 2 codes of practice within the facility and the management and maintenance cell culture equipment within the facilities. Equipment under my care ranges from standard cell culture equipment, including microbiological safety cabinets and CO2 incubators, to the BD FACS Melody and high power Xray Irradiator. In addition to management of the cell culture facilities I am also the departmental Radiation Protection Supervisor and the University Designated Individual for human tissue. I sit on the Biosciences H&S committee, Biosciences Infrastructure committee, the University Biological Safety Advisory committee, the University Radiation Safety Advisory committee and I am chair of the University Human Tissue Board. |
