Abstract
Examines the advantages and disadvantages of the phenomenon of the locus classici, classic and definitive judicial statements, and how they have shaped the law of equitable doctrines. Distinguishes the locus classicus from the concepts of binding precedent, obiter dicta, persuasive precedent and leading cases. Refers to case law to show the influence locus classici have had and the risks of relying on them.
