Abstract
Religion occupies an important place in the Renaissance and it would have been impossible for Montaigne not to comment on the theological and dogmatic quarrels of his time. Montaigne situates religious practices in the context of the religious wars and finds that, too often, we "bring God's name into our affairs or our society" (I, 56). He ponders on the theological foundations of all religious forms and is concerned that our soul is not exempt of revenge or resentment. This collection of articles addresses the various aspects of theology and religious practices in Montaigne's works, investigating the complex problem of what has been called "Montaigne's religion."
