Luany Promenzio
Biography | Luany Promenzio is a PhD candidate in Sociology at Durham University since 2020. An economist graduated from the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo, she completed her Master’s Degree in Sociology at the University of Coimbra in Portugal. Her current research focuses on promoting greater access to universities and elite courses for students from low-income backgrounds, analysing the strategies that enable these students to enter competitive courses. Luany conducts a comparison between England and Portugal, exploring how these countries, with different welfare states, promote access to higher education in diverse ways. Her analysis reveals that, despite Portugal being a semi-peripheral country in the world-system, it offers more favourable access conditions compared to England, which is facing increasing inequality in this field. Member of the Higher Education and Social Inequality (HESI) research group. |
