Laura McGuire
Biography | Laura graduated from University College London in 2019, with BSc (Hons) in Anthropology. She is currently a doctoral student, funded by an ESRC studentship from NINE DTP, and is working as PDRA on a research project investigating active travel in coastal low-income communities. Both research sites are based in the North of England. In her PhD project, she is exploring community gardening and green social prescribing, as informed by her research interest in health inequalities, healthism, constructions of nature, and conceptions of wellbeing. She aims to look at the moralities and motivations that undergird both health practices and gardening practices, and to ethnographically explore their compatibility in the context of green health interventions. This project builds upon the research conducted as part of her MA Research Methods degree. Laura is supervised by Professor Tessa Pollard, Professor Cassandra Phoenix, and Doctor Stephanie Morris. Her PDRA role involves the use of ethnographic methods to understand the place of travel in the lives of those living in north-eastern (England) coastal communities, and how they may experience sustainable travel initiatives. This project is co-led by Professor Tessa Pollard, and Doctor Cornelia Guell, and funded by the NIHR SPHR. |
