Dr Jonathan Bush

Biography I am a qualified archivist with nearly 20 years experience working in the Archives and Special Collections team in University Library and Collections. Throughout this time, I have managed a number of collections, including the Sudan Archive, Ushaw College/Catholic collections and the University Archive.

My current role is Research Engagement and Collections Development Archivist. This involves encouraging and enabling the development of research projects through collaboration and partnerships and active collections management. I proactively develop and manage connections and relationships between ASC and academic colleagues in relation to potential and current research projects using Collections, managing the appraisal and review of current collections, and identifying priority areas for future acquisition or de-accessioning, within the Collections Development Policy.

I also completed my PhD from Durham University on the subject of 19th century anti-Catholicism and anti-Irish prejudice in the North East of England and have published a number of peer-review articles and monographs on 19th and 20th century Catholic history. I have also completed a funded AHRC-RLUK Professional Practice fellowship on the subject of the management and future storage of the archives of Catholic religious institutes and the project lead on a project to examine the history of Durham University and its links with historic slavery and colonialism.

I would be interested in discussing potential collaborative projects with academics, across the university and beyond, using our archives and special collections.
