Biography Dr Kat Langley joined Durham Law School in November 2024. Kat obtained her PhD in Law from Leeds Beckett University in 2021. Kat’s PhD thesis considers the law used as a framework by Immigration Law practitioners, her interest in this topic was driven by her own experience of working as an immigration and asylum advocate. Since the completion of her PhD Kat has worked as a Lecturer at York St John University and a Senior Lecturer at the University of Sunderland.

Kat is The Policy and Educational Development Editor for The Law Teacher: International Journal of Legal Education, and is actively involved with several learned societies:

•Membership Secretary for the Association of Law Teachers
•Stream Convenor for “managing and protecting people on the move’ stream for the Socio-Legal Studies Association
•Stream Convenor for ‘Legal education’ stream for the Society of Legal Scholars.

Research Interests Kat is a socio-legal scholar. Kat has published several immigration-related pieces. The predominant focus of her research is legal education, particularly ways to improve inclusivity and diversity for all students, but especially international scholars and socio-economically diverse legal scholars.
