Dr Marcus Pound
Biography | My route to academia has arguably been somewhat unconventional. I was a mature student who, in the absence of exam qualifications at ordinary or advance level, found an opening through Mrs Thatcher's Access to Education initiative and was financed in the final years of Local Education Authority grants. |

Research Interests | My research interests revolve around 'trauma-studies'. I take both a theoretical approach with an interest in psychoanalysis, as well as a practical (ethnographic) interest in the cases of abuse within the Catholic Church. |
Teaching and Learning | I currently teach 3 undergraduate modules. First, a research module on sexual abuse within the Catholic Church. Second, an interdisciplinary module on comedy and theology, looking at christian understandings and responses to comedy across history, along with religious responses more generally. Finally, I teach a module on Catholic Theology in the modern world, from Vatican I to Pope Francis. |
PhD Supervision Availability | Yes |
PhD Topics | I am interested in students working in the area of trauma-studies, but also those working in continental philosophy. I am currently supervising work on Jacques Lacan and Jean Luc-Marion and keen to recruit PGs with an interest in comedy. |
