Joanne Smith
Biography | Jo Smith is an Assistant Professor at Durham University’s School of Education. She is the Deputy Director of ITT Wellbeing and teaches science across UG and PGCE programmes. She has a keen interest in the underrepresentation of minority groups in STEM; First Generation students, social mobility, and wellbeing. She has written chapters and articles about Primary Science and teaching pedagogy and presented at UK conferences. Jo has taught in both large and small primary schools from mixed age EYFS/KS1 classes to readying her Y6’s for SATs at KS2. She has led science, arts, and early years across a federation of schools. Jo has taught science at secondary school, specialising in physics to A-Level. In her earlier career, Jo used her physics degree as a semiconductor engineer, travelling the world to buy multi-million-pound pieces of equipment to manufacture microchips. |
