Biography | My current research focuses principally on developing an ontology of a world that is changing. I argue in particular that velocity (changing of position) is ontologically real. The view I advocate – which is set out most fully in my recent manuscript Acting-arrangement ontology introduced - contrasts with the orthodox contemporary at-at view of motion which holds that velocity can be eliminated from ontology. This work dovetails with a distinct stream of applied work which I undertake within the philosophy of science in conjunction with Nancy Cartwright which focuses on causation, processes, mechanisms, powers and laws of nature. |
