Dynamics of the topological structures in inhomogeneous media (2008)
Presentation / Conference Contribution
Ferreira, L., Piette, B., & Zakrzewski, W. (2008, December). Dynamics of the topological structures in inhomogeneous media. Presented at The 5th International Symposium on Quantum Theory and Symmetries, Valladolid, Spain

We present a general review of the dynamics of topoligical solitons in 1 and 2 dimensions and then discuss some recent work on the scattering of various solitonic objects (such as kinks and breathers etc) on potential obstructions.

Wobbles and other kink-breather solutions of the Sine Gordon model (2008)
Journal Article
Ferreira, L., Piette, B., & Zakrzewski, W. (2008). Wobbles and other kink-breather solutions of the Sine Gordon model. Physical review E: Statistical, nonlinear, and soft matter physics, 77, https://doi.org/10.1103/physreve.77.036613

We study various solutions of the sine-Gordon model in (1+1) dimensions. We use the Hirota method to construct some of them and then show that the wobble, discussed in detail in a recent paper by Kälberman, is one of such solutions. We concentrate ou... Skyrme Model with Different Mass Terms (2008)
Journal Article
Piette, B., & Zakrzewski, W. (2008). Skyrme Model with Different Mass Terms. Physical Review D, 77, https://doi.org/10.1103/physrevd.77.074009

We consider a one parameter family of mass terms for the Skyrme model that disfavors shell-like configurations for multibaryon classical solutions. We argue that a model with such mass terms can provide a better description of nuclei as shell-like co... Read More about Skyrme Model with Different Mass Terms.

Ratchet behaviour of polarons in molecular chains (2008)
Journal Article
Brizhik, L., Eremko, A., Piette, B., & Zakrzewski, W. (2008). Ratchet behaviour of polarons in molecular chains. Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter, 20(25), https://doi.org/10.1088/0953-8984/20/25/255242

We study the ratchet behaviour of polarons in diatomic molecular chains under the influence of an external electromagnetic field which is periodic in time. We show that in asymmetric chains a harmonic unbiased field causes a drift of polarons. This p... Read More about Ratchet behaviour of polarons in molecular chains.

Effects of Periodic electromagnetic Field on Charge Transport in Macromolecules (2008)
Presentation / Conference Contribution
Macromolecules. Presented at Frohlich Symposium, Biophysical Aspects of Cancer: Electromagnetic Mechanisms

We study effects of periodic fields on charge transport in macromolecules and show that solitons acquire complex dynamics induced by the interplay between the periodic in time external field, energy dissipation, and depends on the molecule symmetry.... Some Aspects of Dynamics of Topological Solitons (2008)
Presentation / Conference Contribution
Piette, B., & Zakrzewski, W. (2008, December). Some Aspects of Dynamics of Topological Solitons. Presented at 22nd Max Born Symposium,, Wroclaw

We present a general review of the dynamics of topological solitons and then discuss some recent work on the scattering of various solitons (in 1 and 2 dimensions) on potential obstructions.

Scattering of sine-Gordon Kinks and Breathers on a Finite Width Well (2008)
Presentation / Conference Contribution
Well. Presented at Dynamic Systems and Applications, Atlanta, Georgia, USA

We analyse the scattering of sine-Gordon kinks and breathers on a square potential well. We show that when a kink is sent onto the well, it can go through it, be trapped, or sometimes even bounce back out of the well. For breathers, the situation is... A simple formula for the conserved charges of soliton theories (2007)
Journal Article
Ferreira, L. A., & Zakrzewski, W. (2007). A simple formula for the conserved charges of soliton theories. Journal of High Energy Physics, 2007(09), https://doi.org/10.1088/1126-6708/2007/09/015

We present a simple formula for all the conserved charges of soliton theories, evaluated on the solutions belonging to the orbit of the vacuum under the group of dressing transformations. For pedagogical reasons we perform the explicit calculations f... Read More about A simple formula for the conserved charges of soliton theories.

Adiabatic self-trapped states in carbon nanotubes (2007)
Journal Article
Brizhik, L., Eremko, A., Piette, B., & Zakrzewski, W. (2007). Adiabatic self-trapped states in carbon nanotubes. Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter, 19(30), https://doi.org/10.1088/0953-8984/19/30/306205

We study the polaron (soliton) states of a quasiparticle (electron, hole, exciton) in a quasi-one-dimensional (quasi-1D) model which describes a carbon-type zigzag nanotube structure. In the Hamiltonian of the system we include the electron–phonon in... Read More about Adiabatic self-trapped states in carbon nanotubes.

Scattering of Sine-Gordon kinks on potential wells (2007)
Journal Article
Piette, B., & Zakrzewski, W. (2007). Scattering of Sine-Gordon kinks on potential wells. Journal of Physics A: Mathematical and Theoretical, 40(22), 5995-6010. https://doi.org/10.1088/1751-8113/40/22/016

We study the scattering properties of sine-Gordon kinks on obstructions in the form of finite size potential 'wells'. We model this by making the coefficient of the cos(phiv) − 1 term in the Lagrangian position dependent. We show that when the kinks... Journal Article
Bratek, L., Brizhik, L., Eremko, A., Piette, B., Watson, M., & Zakrzewski, W. (2007). Self-trapped electron states in carbon nanotubes. Physica D: Nonlinear Phenomena, 228(2), 130-139. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.physd.2007.02.013

We study numerically self-trapped (polaron) states of quasiparticles (electrons or holes) in a deformable nanotube formed by a hexagonal lattice, wrapped into a cylinder (carbon- and boron nitride-type nanotube structures). We present a Hamiltonian f... Read More about Self-trapped electron states in carbon nanotubes.
