Abstract
This book provides a new account of modern ethics by viewing the subject through the lens of World War II. It argues that postwar society has come to define its notions of good and (especially) evil primarily with reference to Hitler and the Nazis, allowing us in the process to discard traditional religious reference points. It then considers some of the consequences of this shift, good and bad; argues that this new consensus is now breaking down, resulting in 'culture wars'; and proposes a new synthesis between traditional and post-Nazi value systems.
