Abstract

This editorial for the special issue outlines a framework for understanding the material basis for elite schooling. It examines how we can conceptualise the paradoxical nature of the relations between capital, the state and elite schools. It synthesises and summarises the papers in the special issue whilst developing a framework for considering the alchemical relation to capital, capital and class, philanthropy and money, the coloniality of elite schooling and the paradox of state enablement.
