Abstract
This paper stems from Lepelley’s primary research field and aims to investigate the changes that occurred in the fora of various North African cities from the fourth to the end of the sixth century. It intends to provide an archaeological perspective on C. Lepelley’s research, which was based primarily on the rich epigraphic material of North Africa. The analysis uses different case studies to shed new light on the changes that occurred in public spaces along with the trends, that determined these variations. The transformation of fora, in fact, resulted from a combination of trajectories that different urban spaces have followed for varying reasons, often including decisions made by governing bodies. The new urban form was in fact an expression of the local communities, that were responding to their own needs. In this process of adaptation, foraappear to have followed similar patterns dictated by similar conditions.
