Abstract
This chapter covers the syntheses and geometries of polyhedral carboranes. Conversions of C–H and B–H bonds into C–X and B–X, respectively (where X is a nonmetal substituent), in these systems are also discussed. Significant developments described are the syntheses of new tricarbaboranes, hypho-carboranes and—in particular—supraicosahedral carboranes. The use of ab initio/NMR computations and the effect of the Brellochs reaction on the field of monocarbaborane chemistry are also discussed.
