Apostar por Roma: arte en México en el siglo de la Independencia

Abstract

This essay introduces the exhibition catalogue of the Rome in Mexico / Mexico in Rome exhibition at the Museo Nacional de San Carlos in Mexico City (Dec 2018 - May 2019). As the title suggests, the essay addresses the question on how and why Mexico 20 years after its independence and in a period of political turbulence turned to Rome for revamping the National Academy of Fine Arts.
