Abstract

This chapter examines partnerships orientated towards the provision, or acquisition, of funding and resources for Sport for Development and Peace (SDP) organisations and their programmes. It considers partnerships associated with policy and strategic development within countries, typically in the global South, that have been the central focus of the SDP 'movement'. The chapter also considers partnerships that have been developed to enhance the local implementation and delivery of SDP programmes. It focuses on relationships between governments and those civil society organisations, such as non-governmental organizations, that are most prominent in the provision of SDP projects and activities. The chapter offers a brief overview of key themes identified in literature on government-civil society relationships in other development sectors. It also focuses on local and community contexts in which partnerships may specifically support the implementation and delivery of SDP by, and among, particular organisations.
