Abstract
An examination of the hypothesis that classroom pedagogy influences the degree of school disaffection amongst children and their immediate family. A study of learners and their primary carers making use of information technology in 10 schools from areas of significant socio-economic disadvantage in the north of England is reported. Pre and post-intervention attitude and cognitive measures related to school engagement and literacy were presented and correlational analysis conducted. Results have implications for educational policy and schools regarding inclusion strategies, classroom pedagogy, community engagement and for the wider agenda of lifelong learning.
