Abstract

The oxidative fluorination of [Ru-3(CO)(12)] with XeF2 in anhydrous HF afforded, in solution, cis-[RuF2(CO)(4)] as the major product with [RuF(CO)(5)](+), [Ru2F4(CO)(7)], [{RuF(CO)(4)}(2)(mu-F)](+), mer- and fac-[RuF3(CO)(3)](-), [{RuF2(CO)(3)}(n)] and [{RuF2(CO)(3)}(mu-F){Ru(CO)(5)}](+) as minor products, all of which have been characterised by C-13, F-19 and C-13-{F-19} NMR spectroscopies. Removal of the HF solvent in vacuo yielded tetrameric [{RuF2(CO)(3)}(4)].
