Abstract

We report the preparation and properties of ultra-thin films of polyaniline formed by spinning. The polyaniline, dissolved in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone, was found to behave as a non-Newtonian fluid. However, high quality films could be produced under appropriate conditions. From these spun films of emeraldine base, we have calculated the absorption coefficient of both the benzenoid pi-pi* transition observed at 320nm and the quinoid ring absorption seen at 610nm, which leads to self-trapped exciton formation.
