Abstract
This article examines the impact of transformational leadership, fairness perceptions, psychological contract breach and perceived external prestige on organizational identification. Organizational identification concerns the perception of oneness with an organization and is rooted within the framework of social identity theory. Organizational justice focuses on the ways in which employees determine if they have been treated fairly in their jobs and the ways in which those perceptions influence other organizational outcomes. Closely related to the issue of organizational justice and its effect on organizational identification is that of psychological contracts. The psychological contract is defined as an individual's beliefs about the terms and conditions of a reciprocal exchange agreement between the person and another party. Organizations that are perceived by the employees as breaking their promises are less likely to be perceived as embodying desirable attributes that employees would wish to incorporate in their self-identity and to further inspire them to want to tie their fate with that of the organization. Transformational leadership, fairness perceptions and psychological contract breach are important explanatory contributors to organizational identification.
