Ein redaktionskritischer Zugang zum Diatessaron betrachtet diesen Text als eigenständiges Evangelium und ist bestrebt, redaktionelle Vorgehensweisen bezüglich seiner Quellen aufzuzeigen, die denen vergleichbar sind, die von früheren Evangelisten verwendet werden. Trotz aller Schwierigkeiten, den ursprünglichen Text des Diatessaron zu bestimmen, kann das bestehende Material Aufschluss geben über die charakteristischen redaktionellen Motive des Kompilators.
