Fire, Blood and the Alphabet: One Hundred Years of Lorca.
Abstract
In 1998 the world celebrated the 100th anniversary of the birth of Federico García Lorca, Spain's greatest modern poet and dramatist. The Lorca Fiesta staged at the Newcastle Playhouse was the biggest centenary event outside Spain, and also the most fun. It included dance, theatre and music, and a conference on the impact of Lorca's life and work. This volume is the product of that conference and a record of the magic and diversity of the whole Fiesta. The contributors are a stimulating blend of academics, poets and theatre professionals, all responding in a variety of ways to the creative challenges of Lorca's legacy.
