Dr Gokberk Kabacaoglu
Biography | Gokberk Kabacaoglu earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 2019, where he honed his expertise in developing advanced simulation techniques using high-performance computing and machine learning. Following his doctoral studies, he joined the Simons Foundation Flatiron Institute as a postdoctoral researcher, where he worked from 2019 to 2022, focusing on algorithm development for complex flow simulations. In 2022, Gokberk returned to Turkey as a faculty member in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Bilkent University, Ankara. There, he continued his research on the dynamics of elastic and rigid structures in fluid flows. In 2025, he joined the Department of Computer Science at Durham University, United Kingdom, as an Assistant Professor. Gokberk’s research specializes in creating fast and accurate algorithms for simulating complex flows. Using tools such as the boundary integral equation method, machine learning, and high-performance computing, his work addresses critical challenges in medical technology. His simulations are instrumental in the design of small-scale, user-friendly medical devices for diagnostics, contributing to the democratization and accessibility of medical technologies worldwide. Beyond his academic pursuits, Gokberk has a keen interest in sociology, psychology, history, and politics, which complement his interdisciplinary research approach. He is an avid traveler who enjoys exploring diverse cultures and landscapes. He is also passionate about sports, actively engaging in fitness, squash, and football. |
