Abstract
'agricologies' is a cycle of 4 works lasting c.15 minutes. More pieces will be added for a total duration of 30 minutes. The cycle is commissioned by Fretwork and the Kreutzer String Quartet in connection with the 500th anniversary of the death of Alexander Agricola (ca. 1456-1506). The premiere of the viol consort pieces from the cycle will take place at the Purcell Room of the South Bank Centre, London, on 16th September 2006. These are listed below: 'Agricola I: Comme Femme a 2/4' (6 minutes) 'Agricola III/Obrecht Canon I: De tous biens plaine a 4' (1 minute) 'Agricola IV: Fortuna Desperata a 6' (3 minutes) The movement already written for string quartet is: 'Agricola II: Comme Femme a 4' (6 minutes) The first performance of 'Agricola IV' will take place at the Wigmore Hall, London, on 25 June 2006 as part of Fretwork's 20th anniversary concert. The cycle's completion is funded by the AHRC, which awarded the composer a research leave grant in February 2006.
