Abstract

This paper provides a comprehensive review of the strategic information systems planning (SISP) literature. Given the broader research project within which the review was executed, a simple summary of the literature was deemed to be a less than optimal approach. Thus, it has been undertaken through the strategy as practice (SAP) lens (Whittington, 2006). The fundamental pillars of the practice lens, namely practice, praxis, and practitioner have been used as a framework by which the literature has been distilled. Specifically, Jarzabkowski and Spee's (2009) classification system has been adopted to enable a more systematic approach to reviewing the extant literature. The result of such an approach is a fresh review of the SISP literature, capturing the core components of the nascent SAP field within the SISP domain. A uniquely framed agenda for further academic enquiry emerges as the fruit of this novel yet rigorous approach.
