Unity and Difference in European Cultures.

Abstract

The present volume gathers together a selection of the papers presented at the third biennial meeting of the Durham European Literature Colloquium, which took place in Durham in 1996. The theme, ‘Unity and Difference in European Cultures’ had been chosen specifically to encourage interdisciplinary exchange; this collection of articles, encompassing a wide range of approaches and specialisms, all brought to bear upon the question of difference in European cultures from the Middle Ages to the present day, shows how the objective was fulfilled.
