This fourth edition has been restructured, introduces new pedagogical features, expands discussion of mental health law and covers recent legal developments including the recent Supreme Court decisions of Aintree and Nicklinson. The completion of the 1st edition of this book was supported by an AHRC grant. One reviewer opines that the book ‘is very successful at intertwining ethical and legal concepts in order to provide a holistic approach to the areas discussed’ and manages to ‘successfully deal with both medical law and ethics…deftly’ (Morgan (2007) LS 155, 158). The judges who awarded the 2nd edition the 2010 Minty Prize concluded that it achieved its aims with ‘aplomb’ and was ‘of value not only to readers with a specific interest in medical law, but also to those concerned about the legal and moral aspects of modern medical treatments’.
