Electroabsorption measurements of polysquaraine (1996)
Journal Article
Pomfret, S., Monkman, A., & Havinga, E. (1996). Electroabsorption measurements of polysquaraine. Synthetic Metals, 78(3), 285-288

We report an electroabsorption signal for the main IR-Vis absorption peak in thin films of polysquaraine. Spectra from 1.0 to 2.0 eV at a temperature of 10 K show a positive peak at 1.29 eV, followed by a negative peak at 1.35 eV with vibronic struct... Background field boundary conditions for affine Toda field theories (1996)
Journal Article
Bowcock, P., Corrigan, E., & Rietdijk, R. (1996). Background field boundary conditions for affine Toda field theories. Nuclear Physics B, 465(1-2), 350-364. https://doi.org/10.1016/0550-3213%2896%2900050-8

Classical integrability is investigated for affine Toda field theories in the presence of a constant background tensor field. This leads to a further set of discrete possibilities containing no free parameters other than the bulk coupling constant.

Modification of the topological expansion of the O(3) sigma model. (1996)
Journal Article
Costambeys, R., & Mansfield, P. (1996). Modification of the topological expansion of the O(3) sigma model. Nuclear Physics B, 462(1), 141-166. https://doi.org/10.1016/0550-3213%2896%2988698-6

We show that the one-instanton sector moduli-space divergence of the O(3) sigma model leads to an unacceptable dependence of Green functions on the arbitrary way that the field is split into a quantum fluctuation about a classical background. In part... Read More about Modification of the topological expansion of the O(3) sigma model..

Envisioning Urban Histories: Bristol as palimpsest, postcards, and snapshots (1996)
Journal Article
Crang, M. (1996). Envisioning Urban Histories: Bristol as palimpsest, postcards, and snapshots. Environment and Planning A, 28(3), 429-452. https://doi.org/10.1068/a280429

This paper is an attempt to juxtapose a variety of ways in which a city's history can be portrayed by working through various forms through which the history of Bristol has been envisioned. First, I hope to use the concept of the palimpsest from hist... Read More about Envisioning Urban Histories: Bristol as palimpsest, postcards, and snapshots.

Culture, Ideology and Personality: Robert C. Tucker's Analysis of Stalinism and Soviet Politics (1996)
Journal Article
Welch, S. (1996). Culture, Ideology and Personality: Robert C. Tucker's Analysis of Stalinism and Soviet Politics. The journal of communist studies and transition politics, 12(1), 1-37. https://doi.org/10.1080/13523279608415299

Robert C. Tucker's contributions to Soviet studies have not only been various and fundamental, but also methodologically innovative. This essay seeks to make an overall assessment of Tucker's Sovietological work to date, concentrating mainly on quest... Read More about Culture, Ideology and Personality: Robert C. Endogenous Taxation: An Overlapping Generations Approach (1996)
Journal Article
Renstrom, T. I. (1996). Endogenous Taxation: An Overlapping Generations Approach. The Economic Journal, 106(435), 471-482. https://doi.org/10.2307/2235261

The paper develops an overlapping generations framework of endogenous taxation. There are three types of heterogeneity among individuals: age, productivity, and bequest motives. The heterogeneity gives rise to a redistributive conflict and therefore... Read More about Endogenous Taxation: An Overlapping Generations Approach.

Steady and non-steady state magma chambers below the East Pacific Rise (1996)
Journal Article
Batiza, R., Niu, Y., Karsten, J., Boger, W., Potts, E., Norby, L., & Butler, R. (1996). Steady and non-steady state magma chambers below the East Pacific Rise. Geophysical Research Letters, 23(3), 221-224. https://doi.org/10.1029/95gl00016

Volcanic rocks collected on flowline traverses on the flanks of the East Pacific Rise (EPR) document changes in axial magma chemistry with time, providing a record of the thermal history of axial magma chambers (AMC). We present data for a sample set... Read More about Steady and non-steady state magma chambers below the East Pacific Rise.

Optical and electrochemical properties of metallophthalocyanine derivative Langmuir-Blodgett films (1996)
Journal Article
Granito, C., Goldenberg, L., Bryce, M., Monkman, A., Troisi, L., Pasimeni, L., & Petty, M. (1996). Optical and electrochemical properties of metallophthalocyanine derivative Langmuir-Blodgett films. Langmuir, 12(2), 472-476

The formation of high-quality Langmuir-Blodgett films of copper and nickel phthalocyanine derivatives substituted with short branched chains is reported. Ellipsometric and polarized optical absorption measurements suggest that the phthalocyanine mole... Synthesis of high molecular weight polyaniline at low temperatures (1996)
Journal Article
Adams, P., Laughlin, P., & Monkman, A. (1996). Synthesis of high molecular weight polyaniline at low temperatures. Synthetic Metals, 76(1-3), 157-160

The oxidative chemical polymerization of aniline in hydrochloric acid solution has been extensively studied at low temperatures. The resulting polyaniline has a molecular weight up to ten times higher than that prepared at room temperature. Polyanili... Response of a new ceramic-oxynitride (Cernox) resistance temperaturesensor in high magnetic fields (1996)
Journal Article
Ramsbottom, H., Ali, S., & Hampshire, D. (1996). Response of a new ceramic-oxynitride (Cernox) resistance temperaturesensor in high magnetic fields. Cryogenics, 36(1), 61-63

The resistance of a commercial Cernox (ceramic-oxynitride) thermometer has been measured from 4.2 to 30 K in magnetic fields up to 15 T and compared to that of a carbon-glass thermometer. Throughout this field and temperature range, the maximum magne... Read More about Response of a new ceramic-oxynitride (Cernox) resistance temperaturesensor in high magnetic fields.
