Abstract
Although Lessing translated from the major European languages, and translation became a subject of literary criticism in the 18th century for the first time, Lessing’s role in this has seldom been examined. The present volume contains papers on Lessing’s theory and practice of translation, on his translations of individual authors, and on his contribution to the development of German vocabulary.
