Abstract

With increasing numbers of students going to university, pressure on academics to 3e more research active, information and teaching materials proliferating in scope and format, library sites becoming ever more over-crowded, university librarians are faced with many difficult challenges and choices. This article looks at how the librarians in charge of the five university libraries in the north-east of England are trying to meet these challenges and take their libraries smoothly into the next century.
