Abstract

Over the past three decades the construction of the Birecik and Carchemish Dams in Turkey and the Tishrin Dam in Syria has led to an explosion of archaeological work along the Middle Euphrates valley. More recently, scholars have begun to investigate the landscapes outside the river valley, increasing our understanding of settlement dynamics in the wider region.
